1968 Mazda Rotary Coupe R100

The Mazda Rotary Coupe was the first successful model featuring the Wankel engine to sell in substantial quantities to the general public. Based on the then-current Mazda 1200 coupe (with a conventional 73-hp engine), the Rotary Coupe was debut in 1968 with a revised version of the Cosmo Sport coupe's rotary engine code-named 10A. Sporting a stout 110PS maximum horsepower, it proved to be a surprisingly quick car that out-performed the opposition.
